IP to ATM Class of Service Phase 1 Design Guide

چکیده
Rapid growth in Internet and intranet deployment and usage has resulted in a major shift in both corporate and consumer computing paradigms. This shift has resulted in massive increases in demand for both higher volume of communication and for predictable performance for some existing and emerging applications. However, this demand has often left Internet service providers (ISPs) or intranets with insufficient network capacities to indiscriminately offer predictable performance to all of the traffic. Thus, it became necessary to differentiate among the traffic so that the applications or users requiring (and willing to pay for) predictable performance can be identified and granted the appropriate QoS. In response to this need, Cisco introduced in Cisco IOS Release 11.1 CC new QoS extensions to Cisco IOS software network services. This set of services enables a new “Intelligent Internet” business model wherein ISPs and intranets can generate profitable

M1, M2, ..., Mk/G1, G2,..., Gk/l/N Queue with Buffer Division and Push-Out Schemes for ATM Networks (RESEARCH NOTE)
In this paper, loss probabilities and steady state probabilities of data packets for an asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) network are investigated under the buffer division and push-out schemes. Data packets are classified in classes k which arrive in Poisson fashion to the service facility and are served with general service rate under buffer division scheme, finite buffer space N is divided in...
متن کاملIP-SENATE: IP multicast SErvice for Non-broadcast Access networking TEchnology
In this paper we present an eecient implementation of IP multicast over ATM, called ip-senate: IP multicast SErvice for Non-broadcast Access networking TEchnology built on top of congress (CONnection oriented Group-address RESolution Service). Congress is an eecient native ATM protocol for resolution and management of multicast group addresses in a large ATM cloud. It complements the native ATM...
متن کاملCharging for ATM-based IP Multicast Services
Charging and accounting of Internet services has been addressed in numerous proposals. However, finding a solution suitable for ATM-based IP multicast services is highly challenging. IP multicast over ATM introduces high complexity, in particular for multicast with heterogeneous QoS and separate administrative IP domains by involvement of multiple Internet service providers. This paper proposes...
متن کاملTraffic Management for TCP/IP over Satellite-ATM Networks
Several Ka-band satellite systems have been proposed that will use ATM technology to seamlessly transport Internet traffic. The ATM UBR, GFR and ABR service categories have been designed for data. However, several studies have reported poor TCP performance over satellite-ATM networks. We describe techniques to improve TCP performance over satellite-ATM networks. We first discuss the various des...

An integrated service internet running real-time and multimedia applications is rapidly becoming a reality. Meanwhile, ATM technology is appearing in the marketplace. It is an important problem to integrate ATM networks into this integrated service internet. One of the approaches, classical IP over ATM, is now widely deployed, effectively solving the problem of internetworking and interoperabil...
